Eligibility Criteria for SSC JE Recruitment 2026
The age requirement depends on the particular Junior Engineer or Scientific Assistant post and department. For several posts, the maximum age is 30 years, while certain posts, including specified CPWD and DG Lighthouse & Lightships positions, have an upper age limit of 32 years. The crucial date for determining age is 01 August 2026.
For posts with a 30-year maximum age, candidates should have been born between 02 August 1996 and 01 August 2008. For posts with a 32-year maximum age, the corresponding birth-date range is 02 August 1994 to 01 August 2008. Category-wise relaxation is available according to Government of India rules: SC/ST candidates get 5 years, OBC candidates 3 years, PwBD candidates receive 10, 13 or 15 years depending on category, and Ex-Servicemen candidates get relaxation as per applicable rules.
Candidates must also satisfy any additional requirements applicable to their selected department or post. BRO Junior Engineer posts have specific physical and medical standards along with a Physical Efficiency Test, and only male candidates are eligible for these BRO JE positions.
Educational Qualification for SSC JE Recruitment 2026
The required qualification varies according to the engineering branch and organisation. For Civil Engineering posts, candidates may need a Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised university/institute or, for specified positions, a three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering. Some posts accepting diploma holders also require relevant work experience.
For Electrical Engineering posts, a Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering may be required, depending on the organisation, with certain posts prescribing additional experience. Mechanical Engineering posts may require a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, while some diploma-based positions require two years of relevant experience. JE Telecom candidates require a relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology. Scientific Assistant in IMD requires the relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics or specified computer science, electronics, telecommunication, IT and related disciplines. Where experience is required, it must have been acquired after obtaining the prescribed qualification.
