Are you relocating to a new city or have you recently changed your address? If so, make sure to update your new address on your Aadhaar.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is urging citizens to review their Aadhaar card details, particularly those who haven’t made any updates in the last ten years.
UIDAI has extended the deadline for updating your Aadhaar card for free to December 14, 2024.
What is Aadhar ?
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to residents of India. It serves as a biometric-based digital identity for individuals and is linked to personal details such as name, address, date of birth, and biometric data (fingerprints and iris scan). Aadhaar is used for a variety of purposes, including government welfare schemes, subsidies, and services, as well as for identity verification in banking, mobile connections, and other essential services. It helps ensure the efficient delivery of services and benefits while reducing fraud and duplication. Aadhaar is not a proof of citizenship but a proof of residency in India. It aims to streamline administrative processes and create a universal digital identity system for all residents.
As per the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, “An Aadhaar number holder must update their identity and address at least once every 10 years from the date of receiving the Aadhaar number.”
UIDAI announced on social media platform X, “For the convenience of millions of Aadhaar holders, UIDAI has extended the free online document upload service until December 14, 2024.
This free service is available exclusively on the myAadhaar portal. UIDAI continues to encourage individuals to keep their Aadhaar documents updated.”
To update your Aadhar card, you can make changes to your personal information such as name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, or email ID by visiting the official UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) website or through the Aadhar Update portal. The process is simple and can be done online, or you can visit an Aadhar Enrolment Center for in-person assistance. You will need to provide supporting documents for any changes, such as proof of address or identity, and a fee may be applicable for certain updates. After the update request is successfully submitted, you will receive an Aadhar update acknowledgment, and once the process is complete, you can download the updated Aadhar card from the official website.
